Problem
Dennis Prager isn't a psychologist or sociologist; he is a popular LA talk show host. He is a man who is profoundly curious about people and he talks to people for a living. This has provided a wealth of information about one of his favorite subjects. The man has been preoccupied for many years with the subject of personal happiness. He is an information hound reading many newspapers daily, and he can synthesize what he reads.This two-tape set is interesting precisely because Prager isn't a psychologist or expert. His information has not been filtered through an academic lens. He was fascinated with how insatiable sentient beings are. As an experiment he paid a child to continuously pet the family dog for hours. He paid a kid because it wasn't worth his time to do it himself. It was his conclusion that the dog would not willingly give the petting up. It would take an even greater need to distract the dog from its pleasure. Apparently the dog was incapable of deciding it had enough petting, such is the pursuit of pleasure.
In a charming style he explains the many things to consider when seeking personal happiness. Prager believes because we effect others, it is our moral obligation to seek happiness. Here's another quote from him, " In all my studies of happiness, one of the most significant conclusions I have drawn is that there is little correlation between the circumstances of people's lives and how happy they are." Well if circumstances don't determine happiness, what does? Prager delivers the goods in a whimsical manner. You gotta like this guy he is a charmer and extremely intelligent. I have listened to this one at least three times. It 's a great car tape set because it amuses and inspires, yet it does not require intense intellectual attention. If you are open to some solid thinking and some new perspectives, and yes even a little more happiness listen to this tape set.
